my mother says we have become batman, we are on call all the time.
Last night we had another bunny emergency. On tuesday we had 2 bunnies overnight because they needed to be spayed early in the morning. it turned out that one was very pregnant and so when they tried to spay her, they took out 9 babies! 3 died in the process and 2 more died that night. THEN when they were being transported home, the driver had a car accident!! so they were all transported back to the vet and put back into cages. we came to get them around 5 to bring them back to marcy's. When we got to marcy's, we opened the box with the mama and there were only 3 babies. (are you seeing the mathematical problem here?)
"where did the 4th baby go?" marcy asked. we replied, "4? what do you mean? there were only 3". She got on the phone with the vet and they said that there were 4 in the box when they went out the first time but when they came back and were unloaded, there were only three and thus, we only got three to go home. Naturally, marcy went apeshit asking where the 4th went because after the car accident, the bunnies were taken directly back to the vet, nobody opened the box, nothing. the woman on the phone just kept saying, 4 when they left, but only 3 when they came back.
I (f) suddenly had an epiphany... the baby was in with the other "mother" bunny! I said "oh my god..." and jumped at the other box as the light went on in my head. Right after I figured it out, both e and marcy did as well and we all went flying at the other box to see if the baby was in there and then if it was still alive!
Thank GOD it was AND it was ALIVE!!!
Apparently, when they arrived back at the vet after the car accident and the idiot woman unloaded them and only took out 3, without looking for the 4th one! so that poor thing was alone in the box for hours and then some other bunny (the other "mother") was put in on top of it while it traveled all the way to marin!! poor little thing. I may have to adopt it when it gets big.
e named it chai(not as in the drink, but as in the hebrew word for life spelled chet yud - ??) because it had a second chance at life…or i guess a third, or maybe even fourth, I can’t count how many….
So now we wait and see if the little pre-mature babies can make it and get strong
