we have been trying to move in to the new place which is interesting with no stuff, no furniture and no money to buy any stuff or furniture. we have been going down to santa cruz almost every weekend to see my mom partly because she is happy to have us home,happy to have company and pays for dinner (which we can't do to often) and is and partly because it has been rather hot up in the bay area. it is not to big a deal since it is only about an hour and a half to two hour drive. this is good because we don't have to look at our empty place and i get to see my adorable dog (who is even more adorable since she got a shave). she will spend the night this weekend to practice for when my mom goes out of town on business. we are really trying to look at life in terms of choices. lots of people are putting their money into things that make them happy in the short term or teach them something or whatever. our choice was buy this place and own something. anything you do has up sides and down sides to learn and grow from.
e has been in interview world this last week. she has had 5!! interviews. 2 are for a bio-tech in emeryville (about 5 mins drive). 2 were at UCSF and 1 at Berkeley. Again each have benefits and down sides. Bio-techs pay more money and this one has phenomenal benefits but also the jobs are a bit more monotonous. The ones at UCSF pretty much suck. first off it costs a lot to get over there every day (either by bart-public transit or driving toll) additionally, they are not very respectful of her abilities or experience and don't really understand the nuances of going to a liberal arts college, writing a thesis, etc. None of this means anything to them really and e seems to just be a number over there (something she is not at either the bio-tech nor in the Berkeley lab). it really comes down to my fatalists view on life (which i think you share): what is meant to be will be and it will be what was supposed to happen. whatever job she gets is the one that will teach her the most about what she needs to learn. That was certainly what i have been seeing in life this past year. With me getting into my major reach school and david (e's bro) getting into reed (the school i picked for him in the beginning and the school that i am sure he is meant to attend even if he decides to transfer someplace else later). The more we can let go and let life happen the way it is supposed to, the better, as this lets our minds off worrying and fear. so this is what i have been trying to do.
